Anybody see “End of the Spear?” It was a recent movie about missionaries that moved and lived among native tribes in South America before being martyred. Nate Saint was one of them and I recently found out that he went to church a block away from where I’m currently living in Philadelphia’s Fox Chase neighborhood.
Bethany Baptist Church is a large building and when I visited I found out Nate’s sister apparently still goes to church there. As a surprise bonus I was able to score a piano to work on a couple times a week, a Steinway with ivory keys. Very Cool.

Found this post while scrolling your posts… By the way, I have discovered dear friends in my blogging world through conflict so don’t sweat the conversation. I actually was energized reading your post and enjoyed the chance for a good conversation.
Anyway, that is so neat that you are close to thehe Saints. Funny thing is that the father-in-law of Nate Saint’s daughter, Cathy, is my “adopted” grandpa. Frank Drown. He spoke in the video that preceeded the movie. He was the one who led the search party to recover the bodies. His face was the timeless photo on Time Magazine. I can not tell you what an incredible family these people are. All of them. Praise God I found and married my best friend Cameron who I am absolutely crazy about….but there was a time back in the day that I would have married any of his grandsons. A refreshing legacy for sure that continues to be lived out in these friends.
Meeting Nate’s sister would be well worth the effort. I’ve never met her but sat with Frank Drown’s kids and grandkids (some of them Saints) for many meals.
As far as the movie, I cried the whole time. Soaking up Frank & Marie’s stories summer after Canadian summer just made it all come alive in the theatre.
Excited to have a connection in common. The web of connections the web provides is neat & interesting thing.
Blessings-

Thanks for the connection. I was told Rachel Saint (I think) is the one that still goes to church there. I didn’t meet her after the last Saturday program that they had me play for, unfortunately. However I’m somewhat consoled that I met the man who officiated the funeral for my great-grandmother 30 years ago.
I’ll keep up the search!
